German Art Nouveau/Sessionist/ Jugendstil lidded cache pot. It stands 24 cm tall to the top of the handle. Height including the lid is 28.5cm. The diameter is 24cm Plannished and floral decoration to the body of the pot with stylised handles and a bird as the handle on the lid It is marked to the base with an eagle. The mark is rubbed. I believe it is for J P Kayser & sons of Krefeld-Bochum, Germany. The factory was founded around 1885. They were manufacturers and developed a lead-free pewter with the trade mark Kayserzinn from 1894 to 1912. Under J & E Kayser this was used in the making of Jugendstil items designed in Cologne hy Hugo Leven and others. They also produced well made copper and brass items with the eagle mark.. This is truly a lovely item All items that I sell are used unless specified to the contrary and will therefore have ware indicative of age and use.
