Collecting Volunteer Militaria by RJ Wyatt - Hardcover

A comprehensive guide to the items of equipment used by British Volunteer units, this book sets out to help collectors of militaria to recognise and identify the wide range of articles offered for sale by dealers and frequently seen in the auction rooms.

The various types of uniforms and headdresses worn by officers and men are described in detail, there is an account of the weapons with which the Volunteer units were armed, and much useful information about such 'collectable' items as badges and buttons, medals and tokens.

A brief outline is given of the history of the Volunteer forces from the Napoleonic era to the later formation of Territorial Forces, while a final chapter on the Rifle Volunteer Corps and their successors will be found invaluable for enabling collectors to date correctly volunteer items and also to trace the history of a particular unit from its formation until it became part of the Territorial Force in 1908.

Generously illustrated by photographs and line drawings, this essential reference work to a hitherto neglected side of militaria-collecting will also be of considerable interest to students of military history and to antique collectors in general.

This first edition hardcover book was published by David & Charles and released in 1974.

A used book in an overall good condition with original dust jacket. Some foxing to the outer edges of the pages and the dust jacket has the remnants of a sticky label to the inside.
