An original, World War II British Royal Air Force (RAF) Pathfinder Force breast badge.

This highly sought-after insignia was awarded exclusively to the elite aircrews of No. 8 Group, responsible for guiding primary bomber streams to target areas.

The Pathfinder badge was initially granted temporarily after 6 to 8 successful marking operations, becoming a permanent honour only after completing a full tour of 45 perilous sorties.

They were worn strictly on the left-hand breast pocket beneath any medal ribbons, but by regulation, were removed during active combat flights to protect captured crew from targeted interrogation.

This example features a crisp, deeply struck, and highly legible "LUDLOW LONDON" manufacturer hallmark on the reverse of the wing.

It possesses the iconic design features expected of a genuine wartime Ludlow contract piece, including sharp feather detailing and a well-defined tail structure.

Unlike common lugged variants, this premium badge is fitted with its original dual-threaded screw posts and circular wheel nuts.

This hardware configuration was preferred by officers and elite aircrew to ensure the badge sat securely and perfectly flush against the heavy wool fabric of the service dress tunic.

The threads are clear, and both retaining wheels screw down smoothly.

In an Excellent vintage/issued condition, retaining a large amount of its original gilded/gold brass finish.

Beautiful, honest age-related toning, darkening, and minor verdigris/surface oxidation on the reverse, exactly as you want to see on an uncleaned wartime piece.

Completely straight. No bends, cracks, or repairs to the eagle or the screw posts.
