A rare first-edition copy of "Home from Dunkirk: A Photographic Record," a 32-page booklet published in 1940 by John Murray.
The booklet was produced as a fundraiser for the British Red Cross and St. John Joint War Organisation, which provided medical aid and relief to soldiers and civilians during World War II.
It contains 46 photographs capturing the evacuation of over 338,000 Allied troops from the beaches of Dunkirk (Operation Dynamo) between May 26 and June 4, 1940.
The introduction is written by the famous author and broadcaster J.B. Priestley. It is a reprint of his legendary “Postscript” radio broadcast from June 5, 1940, in which he famously praised the "fussy little steamers" and "pleasure boats" that helped rescue the stranded army, helping to forge the "Dunkirk Spirit.".
A used book in and overall good condition with some foxing to the cover.
The photographs are of the actual item and form part of the description.
