Large WW1 German 10.5cm leFH 16 Trench Art Jug/Pitcher with Royal Flying Corps (RFC) Badge.
This heavy brass water jug/pitcher is hand-crafted from a captured Imperial German artillery shell casing and personalized with an authentic British Royal Flying Corps (RFC) cap badge soldered to the front face.
Produced just months before the November 1918 armistice, this piece represents a striking "souvenir of victory" linking a frontline German artillery unit to an elite British aviation corps.
The headstamp dates the production of the casing to July 1918, a chaotic period on the Western Front marked by intense German artillery barrages during the final stages of the Spring Offensive, quickly followed by the massive Allied counter-offensives.
This shell was fired by a German 10.5 cm light field howitzer (leichte Feldhaubitze 16).
Following its capture by Allied forces, a member of the British Royal Flying Corps customized the spent brass.
Because the RFC officially merged with the Royal Naval Air Service to form the RAF on 1 April 1918, frontline personnel frequently continued to wear and use their prestigious, obsolete RFC insignia as a badge of pride throughout the remainder of the war. .
Excellent, authentic condition with no structural damage, major dents, or cracks.
The handle and RFC emblem remain firmly attached with no loose joints or historic repairs.
Lightly polished while preserving deep historic headstamp details.
Height approx 10" (254mm).
