An original World War II-era British Royal Observer Corps (ROC) other-ranks cap badge.
This authentic piece of British home front history dates firmly between 1941 and 1952, featuring the standard wartime white metal construction and the iconic King's (Tudor) Crown.
The crisp, die-struck design beautifully depicts the classic Elizabethan coastwatcher scanning the horizon while holding a flaming warning beacon torch aloft.
This striking imagery pays homage to the historic beacon-lighting system used against the Spanish Armada in 1588.
The lower scroll is clearly struck with the official unit motto: "FOREWARNED IS FOREARMED".
The reverse side shows a crisp negative impression confirming its high-quality die-struck manufacture, complete with original factory-brazed copper loops (lugs) running horizontally (east-west).
Crucially, this piece includes its original brass split cotter pin used to secure the badge inside a beret or field service cap.
Originally formed in 1925 as the Observer Corps, the volunteer civil defence organisation was vital for tracking, identifying, and reporting enemy aircraft during World War II.
King George VI granted the "Royal" prefix in April 1941 to honor their actions during the Battle of Britain.
