Original WWII British Home Guard LDV Armband - 1940 Local Defence Volunteers

An original, period-authentic World War II British Local Defence Volunteers (LDV) armband.

Issued during the high-panic summer of 1940 following the Dunkirk evacuation, these armbands served as the primary official identification for the citizen militia before they were renamed the "Home Guard" by Winston Churchill.

Because the LDV title only officially existed for roughly ten weeks, genuine surviving examples are highly sought after by Home Front collectors.

The iconic black stencilled "LDV" lettering remains incredibly sharp, bold, and clear with minimal fading.

Constructed from the correct, heavy khaki cotton denim twill fabric with a distinct diagonal weave.

Features a stitched-closed loop design with raw, frayed edges on the join seam—highly characteristic of frantic, emergency wartime factory production.

The top and bottom edges are neatly reinforced with original binding tape.

The interior and reverse are blank, which is completely standard for these rapidly sub-contracted early-war civilian textile runs.

Excellent uncleaned vintage condition.

The fabric is structurally sound and free from any moth damage or moisture rot but has not been cleaned so a little grubby.
