Authentic pair of antique British patriotic commemorative brass trays (often used as desk pin dishes or trench art ashtrays) dating to the Second Boer War era (circa 1900).

Both dishes feature the iconic, deeply embossed relief design of a British "Tommy" soldier advancing in service uniform with his rifle drawn, set against a billowing Union Jack flag.

This famous imagery was inspired by Richard Caton Woodville’s 1899 illustration "A Gentleman in Kharki," created to raise funds for troops during the conflict.

The pair comprises of a minimalist, smooth-rimmed round dish and a highly ornate oval tray featuring a decorative victory laurel/oak leaf wreath border.

Both are in an excellent condition, lightly polished but still retaining some aged patina.

Round dish 5" (127mm) across.

Oval tray 6.7" (170mm) long and 4.5" (112mm) wide.
