This is an early 2nd type Queen's South Africa Medal awarded to 2979 Pte W Latham Army Ordnance Corps.

The medal is in a good uncleaned condition with Natal and Transvaal clasps and good clear ghost dates to the reverse.

The rim of the medal nicely stamped with the recipients details.

The Queen's South Africa Medal (QSA) was a British campaign medal instituted by Queen Victoria in 1900 to recognise service during the Second Boer War (1899–1902) in South Africa.

During the Second Boer War, Natal was invaded by Afrikaner forces. The "Natal" clasp was granted to troops who were in Natal at any time between October 11, 1899, and June 11, 1900, and did not receive a clasp for a specific action in Natal or the "Cape Colony" clasp.

The "Transvaal" clasp was awarded to military personnel and eligible civilians for service within the borders of the South African Republic (Transvaal).

It was typically granted if the recipient served in the Transvaal between 24 May 1900 and 31 May 1902, provided they did not already qualify for a specific "Battle" clasp for an action within that state during the same period.
