Here we have a highly collectable and completely intact British Indian Army officer's swagger stick, dating precisely between 1903 and 1922.
This historic piece belonged to an officer of the elite 55th Coke's Rifles (Frontier Force), a legendary regiment renowned for its service on the volatile North-West Frontier of India (modern-day Pakistan).
Unlike many surviving examples that have lost their delicate insignia or suffered loose fittings, this swagger stick remains fully complete and structurally sound.
The white-metal/silvered ball pommel is completely intact and securely attached to the shaft.
The top features a beautifully detailed, crisp embossed regimental crest showcasing the classic rifle regiment Maltese Cross, layered with a traditional bugle horn, the regimental number "55", and the text "COKE'S RIFLES" and "FRONTIER FORCE".
A classic, rigid wooden shaft finished in a deep black lacquer.
It remains straight with no cracks or compromises to the structural wood.
The tapered white-metal ferrule is firmly attached.
It displays a fascinating "battle-worn" patina with deep, genuine historical pitting and surface weathering—excellent material proof of its active service and field use on the rocky terrain of the Frontier.
Length approx 76cms.
Originally raised in 1849 by Captain John Coke, the unit became the 55th Coke's Rifles during the 1903 Kitchener reforms.
In the 1922 restructuring of the Indian Army, they were amalgamated into the 13th Frontier Force Rifles.
