An original Victorian Other Ranks (OR's) Glengarry cap badge for the 5th (Northumberland) (Fusiliers) Regiment of Foot.
This historic piece dates precisely between 1874 and 1881, prior to the Childers Reforms which permanently abolished regimental numbers across the British Army.
The badge is crisp, die-stamped brass in the traditional shape of a flaming fusilier grenade.
The central voided design clearly features the regimental numeral '5' inside a garter band bearing the crisp Latin motto: "QUO FATA VOCANT" (Whither the Fates Call).,
Genuine period die-stamped brass with excellent, deep, hollow detail mirrored on the reverse (Not a flat-backed modern cast reproduction).
Fitted with its original original copper fixing lugs, positioned correctly North and South.
Both lugs are intact, secure, and ready for mounting.
Excellent, untouched condition.
The front shows a wonderful mellow tone with crisp details to the flames and lettering.
The reverse exhibits white polish residue in the recesses.
The photographs are of the actual item and form part of the description.
