A Victorian-era military cap badge for the 60th Regiment of Foot (The King's Royal Rifle Corps).
This specific pattern was worn on the blue Glengarry cap for a brief period between approximately 1874 and 1881, making it a highly desirable piece for nineteenth-century British infantry collectors.
The badge features the classic rifle regiment Maltese Cross surmounted by a crisp Queen Victoria Crown (QVC).
The voided center displays the traditional light infantry strung bugle horn encompassing the regimental line number 60.
The lower scroll bears the proud regimental motto "CELER ET AUDAX" (Swift and Bold), while the top scroll is emblazoned with the "PENINSULA" battle honor.
The arms of the cross are deeply and cleanly stamped with the regiment's historic early campaign honors.
Made from a blackened brass/bronze alloy with authentic, attractive aged patina.
Expected service wear is present along the raised high points and edges, where the original blackened camouflage finish has naturally rubbed away to reveal hints of the bright brass underneath.
The reverse shows an excellent die-stamped intaglio (negative impression) showing crisp lines.
Both original copper wire fixing loops (lugs) are fully intact, completely unrepaired, and oriented horizontally.
