A beautiful, authentic piece of early 20th-century folk art / trench art.

This cylindrical tobacco jar consists of an original British military/export market Player's Medium Navy Cut 50-Cigarette Tin completely encased in a hand-stitched, rich brown leather jacket.

The exterior features highly detailed, handmade woven straw-work panels, showcasing a geometric chevron band around the middle and a classic quadrant cross motif seamlessly integrated across the lid.

When opened, the interior metal lid reveals the iconic, reverse-embossed instructions for the tin’s vacuum-seal pressure lock system.

"TO OPEN TIN REMOVE CAP & PRESS SEAT UNTIL POINT IS DIRECTLY DOWNWARDS REPLACE LID PRESS SLIGHTLY AND TURN".

The bottom of the tin remains fully leather-wrapped and clean.

In a good antique condition.

The leather has aged beautifully with a rich, historic patina.

The stitching remains tight and the fragile straw-work weaving is heavily intact with minimal wear for its age.

The original metal tin remains in structurally sound shape.

It shows a lovely golden hue with light, authentic age-related tarnish/oxidation as pictured, but no heavy structural rust or holes.

 Height approx: 80mm
