The ATS (Auxiliary Territorial Service) was the British Army's women's branch in WW2. 

Formed in 1938 to free men for combat by handling crucial support roles like drivers, cooks, clerks, and operating anti-aircraft defences (searchlights, plotting).

With over 250,000 women serving in varied duties from administration to crucial home defence, becoming the largest women's service of the war.
