An authentic, multi-piece bi-metal cap badge for the 1st Royal Dragoons, featuring the iconic French Imperial Eagle commemorated at the Battle of Waterloo.
This is a genuine period item with excellent character and correct multi-part brazed construction.
The design of this striking badge directly commemorates one of the most famous cavalry exploits in British military history.
During the Battle of Waterloo on June 18, 1815, Captain Alexander Kennedy Clark of the 1st Royal Dragoons led a charge against the French infantry and personally captured the Imperial Eagle of the French 105th Line Infantry Regiment.
As a reward for this historic feat, the regiment was granted the honor of wearing the eagle emblem.
The plinth at the base of the badge proudly bears the number "105" wrapped in a laurel wreath to mark the captured trophy.
In a very good vintage condition with a beautiful natural, uncleaned age patina.
The original brass slider is firmly attached, completely intact, and has never been broken or replaced.
The photographs are of the actual item and form part of the description.
