WWII The Elgin Regiment (25th Armoured Delivery Regiment) RCAC Cap Badge

An authentic, World War II-era brass cap badge for The Elgin Regiment (25th Armoured Delivery Regiment) Royal Canadian Armoured Corps (RCAC).  

The Elgin Regiment served a unique, highly specialised, and critical logistical role during World War II. 

First mobilised on May 24, 1940, as infantry, the unit was converted to armour in January 1942, becoming the 25th Armoured Delivery Regiment (RCAC) and operated across two major European theatres, Italy and North West Europe.

 Rather than operating as a standard combat tank battalion, the Elgins served as the vital "armored lifeline" for the Canadian Army in Europe.

Their squadrons were responsible for:

Receiving, un-greasing, inspecting, arming, and tuning raw tanks from shipping ports.

Maintaining pools of fully combat-ready replacement tanks and trained reinforcement crews.

Delivering replacement tanks directly to front-line units under fire to immediately offset battlefield losses.

During the closing years of the war, the Elgins took on the administrative and supply responsibility for the 1st Canadian Armoured Carrier Regiment ("The Kangaroos").

This was a top-secret unit that converted stripped-down tanks and self-propelled guns into the world’s first modern armored personnel carriers, saving countless infantry lives.
